JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, the latest anime adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s hit manga series, was released on Netflix in December 2021. Directed by Kenichi Suzuki and Yasuko Kobayashi, the series is a must-watch for fans of the original.
The story focuses on Jolyne Cujoh, who is wrongfully sentenced to a 15-year prison term for a crime she did not commit. She soon discovers that one of her father’s disciples is behind the frame-job.
What is JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean?
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean is the sixth arc of Hirohiko Araki’s popular manga. It’s now available to stream on Netflix.
The arc is set in 2011, Florida, and centers on Jolyne Cujoh, daughter of Jotaro Kujo. She is framed for murder and sentenced to a maximum security prison.
While in jail, she makes new friends and helps another prisoner gain her money back. She also faces a new challenge when she meets her cellmate, Gwess.
However, she soon learns that Gwess’s pet parrot is a shrunken man encased in a bird’s skin. When he attacks her, she arouses her Stand, Stone Free.
In Part 2, Jolyne was still stuck in prison, but she was determined to disrupt Father Pucci’s evil plans. She had a chance to meet Jotaro Kujo, but he was in a coma.
Jolyne Cujoh’s story
Jolyne Cujoh was created by Hirohiko Araki in order to show that female protagonists can be strong and capable of fighting. She is a complex character that has grown from being a weak-willed teen into a strong, independent woman.
During her childhood, Jolyne lived a life filled with isolation as her father, Jotaro Kujo, often worked long hours away from home. This frustration caused Jolyne to become a delinquent and resent her father.
When Jolyne was 14 years old, she was mistaken for a suspect in a robbery and falsely arrested for the crime. This led to her being sent to prison.
During her time in prison, Jolyne gained the Stand power of “string manipulation,” which allows her to twist threads into various forms. This skill comes in handy during her confrontation with F.F. where she used the power to subvert the opponent’s reality and attack his physical form.
Characters
The first 12 episodes of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean are now available on Netflix, and more will be coming soon. David Productions is producing the series, and Kenichi Suzuki (Parts 1-3) is the chief director.
The series also includes several new characters. They include Jolyne Cujoh, Foo Fighters, Emporio Alnino, Weather Report, Narciso Anasui, and Ermes Costello.
While these characters don’t have a lot of screen time, they each make an impact. The stand of the week format allows them to show their individual strengths and unique personalities.
While some of these characters are a bit too over the top, they still offer a good amount of emotional depth. Foo Fighters’ arc is particularly interesting, as she transforms from a swamp plankton into a fully realized being with a lot of life experience and a devoted relationship with Jolyne.
