Kodansha USA Announcements at Anime Expo 2023
Anyone who has attended an anime and manga convention knows fans adore their stuff – standing in long lines for autographs from actors who voice Sailor Moon or Kill La Kill and buying advertising space to promote their favorite video game or anime is only evidence of that fact! Fans make events like Anime Expo, New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic-Con successful as well as waiting outside manga stores waiting in line to purchase new volumes of favorite series or art books from these conventions.
At this year’s Anime Expo, numerous publishers made announcements regarding their forthcoming manga releases. Viz Media made several license announcements that will be released between spring 2024 and fall 2023, such as Box Set 3 for Don’t Toy With Me Miss Nagatoro as well as Omnibus Editions of A Sign of Affection Initial D and Fairy Tail.
Seven Seas Publishing announced the deluxe edition of Yasuhiro Nightow’s sci-fi classic Berserk by Yasuhiro Nightow and Hideo Yamamoto’s Homunculus as well as bringing back OMG! Girls’ Generation manga. Additionally, Seven Seas will reprint Oh My Goddess! volume one after years of anticipation!
Yen Press will release several exciting manga releases this spring and summer, including Gokurakugai by Yoko Kanno, romantic comedy I Can’t Say No to the Lonely Girl by Tsurumaikada’s Medalist series and their hardcover volume of Kei X Yaku: Bound by Law drama series.
Hiroyuki Imaishi of Gurren Lagann and Kill La Kill fame will see Azumi’s Sword and Laser get new releases through Yen Press’ manga collection: the final volumes will be made available this time around.
They will also be unveiling the debut volume of Kaina of the Great Snow Sea by Tsutomu Nihei (Blame, Noise), illustrated by Itoe Takemoto – an exciting fantasy adventure about an unlikely pairing between a boy from an alternative world in the canopy and a princess who explore their different realms together.
Jaku Amano of Black Cat and Darling in the FRANXX (Black Cat, Darling in the FRANXX) created A-Do, a science fiction action manga that was just recently published by Yen Press. Set in a dystopian future Japan where Riko rescues Eight from traffic accidents before uncovering military projects to create biometal soldiers; it has an age rating of 16+ and anime adaptation is scheduled to launch sometime around 2023.
