Kuroshitsuji to Return with New Season in 2024
Though Black Butler last appeared more than 10 years ago, his fans of CloverWorks’ series have not had to wait long for it’s return – this installment’s fourth season is scheduled to air starting 2024, along with an engaging key visual and teaser that have increased fan anticipation of this yet-unnamed character returning.
Yana Toboso’s Black Butler manga series has been serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy magazine since 2006. This stunning fantasy tale centers around Ciel Phantomhive, 12-year-old Earl of Phantomhive and Queen’s Watchdog who serves as royal butler and ventures into Victorian-era London to investigate crimes. On a quest for revenge, Ciel makes an unsavory pact with Sebastian Michaelis–an evil butler sworn to serve him faithfully but secretly seeks ways to consume his soul!
Black Butler first appeared as an anime television series adaptation between October 2008 and March 2009, then again between July and September 2010 for 12 episodes that ran between July-September 2010. A two-part theatrical original video animation entitled Black Butler: Book of Circus debuted theatrically in 2014 as well. Furthermore, its popularity inspired a live action film version which premiered January 2014.
While the first season of Black Butler anime closely followed its manga counterpart’s narrative, subsequent seasons departed significantly, and then OVA version “Black Butler: Book of Circus” served as a soft reboot that focused more on Noah Ark Circus than on events from original manga series. Therefore, third season felt disconnected and became disappointing to many fans.
CloverWorks is committed to satisfying its passionate fanbase with Black Butler’s fourth season. Already, they have confirmed Daisuke Ono and Maaya Sakamoto will reprise their roles of Sebastian Michaelis and Ciel Phantomhive respectively, while The Black Butler: Book of Circus OVA should serve as an intro into its fourth season adaptation of Phantomhive Manor Murders arc.
With the announcement of season 32, Black Butler manga has reached a truly astounding 32 volumes! Readers from around the globe have enthusiastically supported its global storytelling saga involving butler and demon’s unbreakable bond; sure to thrill viewers for years. Stay tuned for further information regarding season 32; currently you can stream chapter one from season four anime on Crunchyroll or read its English-language release at Yen Press.
