Warner Bros. Japan and Wit Studio have joined forces to take Suicide Squad into an animated isekai world with an anime isekai adaptation, featuring iconic DC villains Harley Quinn and Joker as part of an exciting fantasy world. A teaser trailer offers us our first glimpse at them both in action during an Anime Expo panel held by both companies and features magic wielding iterations of these duos in action!
Suicide Squad ISEKAI (pronounced i-sekai), will be an original anime that takes the titular group of DC Comics villains on an adventure through fantasy in a magical world. This marks the first time these characters have been translated to anime format as well as being the first American comic book series adapted this way.
Wit Studio, best known for their work on Attack on Titan, Spy x Family and Mob Psycho 100 among many other notable titles, will take charge of production for this series. Eri Osada of Jujutsu Kaisen will direct, while Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara of Jujutsu Kaisen’s chief animation director Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara will write its script and Akira Amano (Hitman Reborn creator and Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective creator among many other notable titles) will overseeing character designs that will also feature Akira Amano (also creator).
Harley and Joker appear causing havoc in an extravagant fantasy world filled with dragons, pig monsters and more. Additionally, there’s a brief teaser showing some other characters featured such as Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc and others who will feature.
Release dates have yet to be set for the show; however, its first episode will debut via streaming service Crunchyroll which has partnered with the studio; other platforms may follow in due time.
Although details remain scarce, it is evident that Suicide Squad ISEKAI does not connect to Gunn and Safran’s forthcoming DC reboot, with Wit Studio CEO George Wada encouraging attendees at an Anime Expo panel to reach out and tell Gunn about the show.
Even without many details, the announcement is sure to spark excitement among DC fans and anime enthusiasts alike. Its existence demonstrates how strong the industry remains beyond traditional titles of this type.
