Japanese manga series ‘Kaijuu 8-Gou’ is getting an anime adaptation. The manga is written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. The series started serializing in July 2020, and has surpassed over 1 million readers. The series has won the Next Manga Awards 2021 in the digital category. Viz Media is licensing the manga for a North American release and will produce an anime version.
The manga has also been nominated for several awards, including the 2021 14th Manga Taisho, which ranks it sixth in all of manga. In addition to that, the manga has also been listed as a Top Ten book by School Library Journal, a “Book of the Year” by Da Vinci magazine, and Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022 list.
The manga series follows a group of teenagers who have awoken to a new world filled with Kaiju monsters. They attempt to save Japan from an alien invasion, but instead, their efforts are in vain. Kafka eventually comes to realize that it is not a good idea to let Kaijus have any power. It is a pity he’s not in a military training school, but he tries.
‘Kaijuu 8-Gou’ is available in English translation through Viz Media and Shueisha. If you’re looking for an anime version of the manga, it is available for free on the Jump+ app in Japan. If you’re in the US, you can also get the manga’s compiled volumes in the English language on Manga Plus.
Shueisha’s Japanese studio has announced an anime adaptation of Kaiju No. 8. The series has so far released 30 chapters – barely enough material for a single-cour anime. Considering that the author releases three chapters a month, he’ll need at least 2 years to finish the series. Hopefully, the anime will be ready to air sometime in July or April 2024.
The manga ‘Kaijuu 8-Gou’ is set in the ’90s. Its premise was a series of supernatural events that took place in a fictitious world. Despite its esoteric nature, the manga has a very realistic and human side. It’s not surprising, then, that ‘Kaijuu 8-Gou’ has found its way to the screen.
